Blog Post #3
This one is harder to write. I don’t feel like doing much today. There’s quite a lot of smoke from wildfires in the air. I’ve been too tired to do much of anything I should for the whole week. I’ve canceled a plan to see Brand New Day because I was afraid I couldn’t drive home safely for the half hour trip in the dark. But I want financial freedom. I sense there’s no real creativity to be had from pressuring oneself beyond their capacity, but money is just so important. If there’s any amount of time in the day, I need to use it to get rid of my 9-5 and replace it with multiple 5-9’s.
I’ve
noticed it’s been hard to switch gears but I’m hoping that leads to success in
business; I’ve been so focused on being frugal that the obsession took hold of
my every thought. I’ve switched from chocolate bars to cocoa powder to save $40
a month on my chocolate habit. I’ve called and threatened my internet service
provider, saying I would switch to their competitor if they didn’t lower my
bill and they dropped it $20 a month (total bluff, by the way; who needs the
hassle of switching ISPs). I’ve switched
to using the bare minimum of laundry detergent to get clean clothes. Laundry is
still passing the sniff test. I’ve applied for and received an Income-Driven
Repayment plan, which delayed my first student loan payment by one month and
dropped my anticipated monthly payments by $40. I’ve ordered kefir grains and
milk powder to start making my own kefir, I’m using Greek yogurt from the store
as a starter culture to turn the milk powder into yogurt and I’ve switched to a
disgusting clumpy protein powder because I just can’t afford the good stuff
anymore. And yes. I did it. I got that second freezer. It was overly involved
and ended with a huge gamble. A freezer arrived at the house that was severely
dented from being dropped, wouldn’t cool, and after unplugging an hour later
started shooting out refrigerant into the room. I was made to drive two hours
away to return the thing and get another, and seeing as I had already made the
drive I loaded up on 20 packages of chicken drumsticks (99 cents a pound) that
are in the fridge waiting for the moment I can plug my new freezer in. Dear
god, I hope that thing freezes this time.
So, if
all goes according to plan, I’ve now bought time. It’s the resource even more
precious than money. Maybe. If you have a lot of money, you can buy a lot of
time. Now what I need to figure out is time management. I’ll have to create a
productivity schedule that doesn’t let my blog posts fall behind an anticipated
one a week (this one is a week late). I’ll need to schedule marketing for my
cleaning business and hopefully schedule actual cleans soon. I’ll need to make
time for meal prepping, cleaning my own house, mowing my own lawn, spending
time with my family and of course, doing absolutely nothing as a spiritual
practice rooted in self-care. If you’re constantly doing things, you never do
any of them well. Never-ending stress is not the answer. Anyways, I hope you’re
making money out there friends. If you’re not, I’ve got ideas. Maybe we can
help each other.
